Elizabethton, Covered Bridge

Covered Bridge, Elizabethton Tennessee

In a small town that has some amazing 1700 architecture, is a covered bridge that is equally as old.  This is one of the best perserved covered bridges in the USA and a delight to look at.  It still stands today with all its wood skeleton still holding it erect for you to walk across.  I remember the days  when you could still drive across it, but now it is under protection and reserved only for walking.

Every year there is one grande festival in this small town that celebrates the bridge (The Covered Bridge Festival)

The bridge has always held many memories for people in this area.  Next to the bridge is  a lovely park with a large fountain.  The old court house in its Georgian Style Glory still stands with a little jail right beside it.  A huge round about with a a monument in the center (resembles the washington monument)

1. A little secret known only to the locals, there is one of the best swimming holes just on the other side of the bridge.

2. The little town has just recently added liquor by the drink so there is a few bars and grill.

3. There are a few 50s style diners in town.

4. Natural Parks, Lakes and plenty of activties surround this area.

Thank you KD. I will continue (for how long?) to post articles in French and English there:
There are usually texts in English I translate into French – texts I don’t write but there are my choice.
Good luck and take care of yourself.
Last time I was on your blog was when I read about Amtrak.
The photo above (the bridge) is very beautiful.
I also “help” my cat, Frimousse, to write his blog. In French but mainly photos.

I will keep reading and watching to see what the cat post.

    Thanks for dropping by.

    Hello Kendal!
    It’s Joke again.
Just to tell you I’ve put a link to this blog on a blog with a French title but that I try to keep bilingual – time permitting.
    Best wishes

Thank You Yoke, I have added these to my blog roll as I find your thoughts soothing in the uproar of the blog world at times.
